i have been having a serious dicussion on another site with a jw.
so far i think i have got my point across regarding 1914 and how the date wasn't actually predicted.
whereas he has come back and said that they did in fact predict "the end of the gentile times".. to a point he is right, russell and his associates did say this.
I suppose a good question to ask them would be, if Jesus was inspecting for true followers, and the bible students were the ones ‘keeping awake’ to the times back then, why is it that both Russell, and Rutherford at the time of inspection believed that Jesus had been ruling for 40 years…..??
Neither of them believed Jesus presence started in 1914 at that time, and Russell never did. How can that be found ‘keeping awake’ for the 'master', when in fact, they didn’t even know he had arrived…??/

1799 was held as the beginning of the ‘time of the end (end of the Ostrogothic era in 539AD counting 1260 days/ day for a year) . --Harp of god p. 230 par 397
1874 was time of Christ’s second coming (invisible) (539AD counting 1335 days/day for a year). –Harp of god p. 230 par 398
He was always Jehovah to me.
Never liked him because of the OT. Hated the ‘Law’. Could only relate to Jesus in the gospel accounts. Never liked his dad…..

i have never until a few days ago been able to reconcile the 70 year prophecy with the 587/6 bce date for jerusalems destruction.
although a post was about this in a previous thread by a@g , i would like to explore this more.. when the 70 years are applied to babylonian rule, rather than the jewish exile everything seems to make sense.. to ellaborate for those who haven't come across it, this is how 587/6 does match the 70 year prophecy.. i hope a@g doesn't mind but i have cut and paste his post:-.

Yeah……That’s not quite the understanding of end milling I really like to equate to. Makes me shudder thinking about your finger going through………yay yay yay yay…….shiver down my spine.
Don’t know what I found the more scary, milling or turning. At the end of the day, they are both as dangerous as hell. But what happened to you is as easy as anything to do. Soooo many times I left the feed going, though normally it would only mess the job up. Just one laps and that’s it……….

I made the mistake of putting my finger close to a 4-tooth endmill in a milling machine. I didn't realize that I had failed to put the feed in the neutral position.
Milling machines always used to scare me to death as well. When I was a miller I used to sometimes think about what could happen if I got wrapped up in the mill, especially when I was doing a finishing cut and blowing away the swarf, with your hand right by the mill. If it really got you it would rip your arm off…..
